Let's get to know each other better

My parents love sharing the story about how I caught them borrowing money from me when I was in elementary school.
It all started with a pizza.
One night, the pizza guy was at our doorstep, and my parents realized they didn’t have cash on hand to pay for it. In a pinch, they took $20 from my money box but replaced it the next day before I even noticed, or so they thought.
I had a quirky habit as a kid: I wrote down the serial numbers of every bill in my box and kept a balanced total. Yes, every bill. I know, I had a lot of time on my hands, but I loved math and patterns, so it was fun for me.
Well, a few days later, I spotted something strange. A bill with a serial number I hadn’t recorded! How did a bill with a completely different serial number end up in my box! A stranger? Maybe I needed a new hiding spot. Or had I recorded incorrectly? I brought it up to my parents and, at first, they didn’t understand why I was upset since the correct amount of money was there.
Then I showed them my list of bills and comprehension hit. They laughed and admitted their "crime." It turns out, no stranger had been in our house; just a pizza-loving family with an unexpected lesson in honesty.
I eventually went on to achieve my BA in Mathematics from The Ohio State University. My education coupled with my 10 plus years in the medical billing industry gave me a strong foundation to launch Deyo Bookkeeping.
While I’ve long stopped recording every serial number, that attention to detail and organization never left me. It’s this mindset that led me to bookkeeping, where I now get to help my clients keep track of their finances with the same level of precision. In a way, I still hold onto that childhood habit—ensuring that every "serial number" is accounted for, balanced, and accurate.
